Now let me tell you a little about bathrooms, specifically public bathrooms, more specifically bathrooms on BYU campus (especially the ones in the library). I entered these the other day to do some business and I'm immediately given the decision on which stall I should choose- this is kind of difficult seeing as there are about 40 stalls to choose from. "WHOA!" I say "How am I supposed to decide?" Well I do what all of us naturally do in this situation I quickly start walking to the handicap stall. Reasons why the handicap stall is great:
1. It has a taller seat
2. When I sit on this seat my feet do not touch the ground
3. There are hand rails
4. Plenty of space (it is quite comfy cozy in there with your mansion of a bathroom stall)
5. The hooks on the back of the stall are always there to hang your coat upon
6. They are usually at the end of the row so you are far away from the sink so people do not have to listen to you tinkle while washing their hands
I LOVE the handicap stall! But this time instead of striding right on in I chose a regular stall. It was a good thing too!
As I am sitting on the throne, if you will, I hear the door open but no sounds of footsteps. Once I have completed my time in the stall, and have still not heard any sounds of movement ,I am a little suspicious. I come out of my stall and BAM!!! right there in front of my eyes for the very first time is someone using the handicap stall who actually needs it! What if I had been the jerk in that stall and she had to wait for me to come out. Upon coming out I would clearly not be in a wheelchair or jazzy scooter of any sort and therefore why am I using her stall which she needs. Obviously I avoided a potentially awkward bathroom scenario and at the same time witnessed someone actually use the handicap stall appropriately. It was a great day in the library bathroom that day.
However, next time I am still totally choosing the handicap stall, it is still the best one. I figure I'm safe since it took me 21 years to have my first encounter with someone correctly using that stall. I have 21 years ahead of me before it happens again.
